Leaders in the world of player development, MAKE THE TURN and True- Spec work seamlessly together to provide you with the tools and support to elevate your game.

Programs are available for adults and juniors, including hourly private coaching,1/2 day and full day custom schools, game specific masterclass schools and more. 

Operating out of our state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor learning center, you’ll enjoy a game changing learning experience any time of year at the finest training facility in the Pacific Northwest.

Jeff Ritter

Meet Jeff Ritter, celebrated coach with over 30 years mentoring champions and everyday golfers. Jeff’s passionate approach blends aspects in technique, strategy and emotional mastery to deliver outstanding results for every player.

Jeff is the Founder and Director of MAKE THE TURN Performance at Pronghorn Academy, recognized as one of the “Best Academies in the West” by Golf Digest’s Editor’s Choice.

From 2019 to 2023 Jeff was honored to be  ranked as the #1 Coach in Oregon by Golf Digest. He is a former Lead Coach for Golf Channel Academies, Golf Digest Schools and the Dave Pelz Short Game School.

A highly accomplished coach, author, and speaker, Jeff is known for his holistic approach to teaching the game. His passion for blending inspiration, physical health, and mental flexibility sets him apart—not just as a coach for playing well, but for living well.

A familiar face in golf media, Jeff has been a regular guest on Golf Channel, appearing on programs like *Morning Drive*. In 2016, he hosted PGA National Instruction Day on Golf Channel, which became the most-watched golf instruction event in history. In 2014, he created the MAKE THE TURN Weekly Challenge Series for Golf Digest TV, which attracted over 20 million viewers, becoming the most successful series on the platform.

In 2024, he recently concluded his role as National Director of NIKE Junior Golf Camps, where he created curriculum for more than 200 locations across North America, including the prestigious Pebble Beach Camp, which he directed for 12 years. 

Today, the success of MAKE THE TURN Performance keeps Jeff close to home, enjoying the stunning summers of Bend Oregon, while running a full range of golf schools and programs at Pronghorn.

His inspiring perspective on both golf and life has taken him around the world, sharing the MAKE THE TURN message: that through the game of golf, we can all live more powerfully with greater passion and purpose.

Taylon Payne

Master Club Fitter at True Spec Golf

Talon Payne is our full-time Master Club Fitter for True Spec Golf. A graduate of the New Mexico State University PGA Golf Management program, as well as a talented competitive player and coach, Talon understands how important properly fit equipment is to playing your best game.
 
Following a successful amateur playing career, winning two State Championships, Talon has focused his future on helping others find more enjoyment in the game. His secret to success lies in helping players find the perfect equipment to elevate their skill, while promoting confidence through knowing the clubs you purchase are tailor made, just for you. 
 
Talon is in his second year with our Academy performance team, we’re excited for the impact Talon brings to the program 

Chris Cooper

PT, DPT Physical Therapist

A Montana native, Chris received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Washington in 1996 and earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana. Chris has worked for Therapeutic Associates in Bend since that time and has been at the Athletic Club of Bend clinic since 2005.
 
Chris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and has advanced manual therapy training through the North American Institute of Manual Therapy. He is also a Level 3 Certified Golf Fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute, a Nike Golf Certified Performance Specialist, as well as Level 1 and 2 K-Vest Certified.
 
Chris finished his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in May 2010. In 2015, Chris became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties; In 2017, he achieved his TPI Level 2 Junior and Power Coach Certifications; In 2018, he achieved his TPI Level 3 Junior Coach Certification; In 2019, Chris attained his Levels 1-3 SuperSpeed Golf Training System Certifications. He has attended the World Golf Fitness Summit in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Chris became TPI Power Level 3 Certified in 2022.
 
His passion is treating injured golfers and helping non-injured golfers maximize golf-specific fitness. He is also passionate about treating foot and ankle injuries. He enjoys mountain and road biking, golfing, skiing, fly-fishing, cooking, and being with his family.
