Fix Your First Tee Jitters

I recently received the question, “How do I stop being so nervous on the first tee in my tournaments?”

Having some butterflies in the midst of a big event isn’t a problem as long as your “interpretation” doesn’t adversely affect your performance. Even the world’s best players admit to having first tee jitters, but to them it’s a natural part of the experience they actually enjoy because it simply means they’re excited about the opportunity to compete.

The first step in shifting those butterflies into positive fuel is embracing the ‘commonality’ that exists in the experience.

The first step in shifting those butterflies into positive fuel is embracing the “commonality” that exists in the experience. When we feel like it’s only US who feels nervous we think that something is wrong, that we’re not tough enough or we don’t have what it takes to perform.

When we see the experience from the viewpoint that everyone feels this way and it’s a natural part of playing golf, we can then focus on the excitement and fun within the moment. The next time you feel the butterflies, smile big…..it’s one of the most recognizable indicators that you’re truly ALIVE!
