Box Jump Basics
Box Jumps are a great way to develop explosive power as part of your leg training routine. They take a little coordination and can be a bit dangerous if you don’t safely engage in the exercise. Some gyms have boxes or platforms at varying heights, while most places will allow you to create a platform with steps used in aerobics classes. Whatever you do, start low and then gradually challenge yourself with more height once you get the hang of it.
1. Stand in an athletic position, with your feet shoulder width apart, at a comfortable distance from the box.
2. Drop into a quarter squat, then extend your hips, swing your arms, and push your feet through the floor to propel yourself onto the box.
3. Create a soft landing with your knees flexed to absorb impact.
4. Finish by extending fully, standing at attention.
*Compete 3 Sets of 10 Repetitions.
