Bomber Breakdown: Ryan Winther
Looking to add a few more yards off the tee? Here’s a swing analysis we recently created for NCGA Magazine breaking down Long Drive phenom Ryan Winther! This was originally a still image swing sequence, however, we came across this video which is more fun to watch. Hit pause, match up the content and learn why this guy can absolutely hammer it!
Here Ryan is perfectly exhibiting some of the key attributes of long ball hitting. His “strong grip” helps facilitate a strong hit. A wide stance supports his explosive move through the ball, while a super-high tee height encourages an upward strike to maximize launch and carry characteristics. Put these principles into play and you’ll bust it too.
His thick arms and bulky frame create a reasonably short backswing length for a long ball hitter. A violent swinger, with a club head speed flirting near 150 mph, Ryan makes this position look remarkably under control.

Weight forward, head back and ready to mash it. Notice the width of his down swing arc. He’s in perfect position to return to the ball with a shallow attack and ascending hit. All that time in the gym. It’s about to pay off in a big way!
Home run hitter? Ryan’s experience as a high-level baseball player is on full display here. With his belt line pushing up and forward, Ryan shows incredible extension through his hips creating maximum swat. In the world of “Long Drive” every swing is for the fences!
